Since 2005, Spanish Colonial and Mexican Religious Art has been one of the focus areas of SAMFA's Permanent Collection--thanks to an initial gift by Fred Pottinger of San Antonio, TX and additional gifts by Hamp and Bonnie Beesley. Then, thanks to a major grant awarded by the Art and Eva Camuñez Tucker Foundation, we were able to purchase 50 more works. Since then, more major gifts have followed, most importantly, from Richard Parkman and from Thomas Duckworth. The Collection numbers about 100 works including 8 major masterpieces of the Mexican Baroque period.
