Biographical Note:

Margaret Stanley Wright Tupper was born in San Angelo, Texas, on September 30, 1887. She was the daughter of Judge and Mrs. W. A. Wright. She graduated from San Angelo High School. In 1907, she married Clifton Tupper, a founder of the San Angelo Evening Standard newspaper. Four years later they moved to Waco and then to San Antonio, where they lived until 1938. Her husband passed away that year and she returned to San Angelo for the remainder of her life.

She studied under various artists while in San Antonio, the most notable being Jose Arpa. Later in life she learned wood carving and many of her frames she carved herself. Tupper taught art classes and was the President of the San Angelo Art League. She was known in art circles in San Antonio and San Angelo, and had several exhibitions all over Texas. She would frequently paint with her daughter, May. Tupper passed away at the age of 92 in 1979.
