Youth Clay Collective

Every Monday in March • 5:00–7:00 PM
Instructor: Chandra Satterwhite
Ages: 9–12

This four-week course, designed for ages 7–17, teaches all the introductory fundamentals one needs to know when beginning to work with ceramics. Students will learn techniques such as coiling, slab building, and pinching to create functional or sculptural pieces. Beyond these skills, students will learn about clay consistencies, basic tools, and the various stages of clay and the glazing processes that result in a finished creation.

Classes are hands-on with instructor demonstrations. No experience needed! Students will receive their own clay as needed for each project. Let’s build something together! Sign up now!

Plaster Mold Making for Slip Casting & Press Molds

Wheel Throwing 101

Intermediate to Advanced Ceramics

March 25 – May 13 • Wednesdays • 6:00–9:00 PM

Beginner to Intermediate Handbuilding

Where to Go & What to Bring

Location

Your class will meet each week at the Concho Clay Studio. We are part of the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, located at 1 Love Street, San Angelo, TX 76903. Look for our signs outside the studio! Our entrance is located to the left of the main museum, up the ramp in the breezeway.

Tools & Clay

Tools are provided for all classes. Please be prepared to pay for clay during your first class. We can accept cash, check, or credit cards for payment.

Museum members, seniors, and military get 10% off Concho Clay purchases. You can become a museum member online at samfa.org/support or in person at the studio.

Important: We do not allow outside clay to be brought in for classes. All clay must be purchased here at the studio.


Open Studio Access

If you register for any 4–8 week ceramic class, you also get full access to Open Studio hours to work outside of class while enrolled. (Youth Clay Collective does not include Open Studio access.)

Open Studio is not a substitute for a class. There is no instruction or demonstrations, as no instructor will be available during these hours. Staff will be available for questions or concerns as needed by students and members.

Open Studio Hours (during the 8-week fall session)

  • Tuesday–Thursday: 10 AM – 2 PM
  • Friday: 10 AM – 3 PM & 4 PM – 9 PM
  • Saturday: 10 AM – 3 PM

Important Notes

  • This class is for adults aged 18+. Concho Clay Studio offers childrens programming for ceramic courses. We are now registering for our upcoming Youth Clay Collective!
  • Only one ticket may be purchased at a time. Please use the name and contact information for the student taking the course if you are purchasing a ticket for another person.
  • There is a minimum registration of 3 students required for a class to make. If a class does not meet the minimum student requirement, you will be refunded and notified as soon as possible.

Refund Policy

We determine refunds on a case-by-case basis. Our policy does not take attendance into consideration. All Eventbrite fees are non-refundable. Please email [email protected] to request a refund.

If you cannot attend the class and will need a refund, please notify us as soon as possible to give us time to consider other students often on waitlists to get into classes.

Refunds are based on the date a student cancels their registration:

  • Cancellations made at least two (2) days prior to the first class receive a full refund.
  • Cancellations made within forty-eight (48) hours of the first class receive a 75% refund.
  • Cancellations made after the first class but before the second class receive a 50% refund.
  • No refunds are issued after the second class meeting.
