In honor of the more than 100-year history of artists painting outdoors in West Texas, the entire community is invited to participate in a downtown paint-out.
SAMFA is hoping to set a world record for the most people painting plein air at once in one venue and we need your help! Whether you are an experienced artist, a student, or simply someone who wants to try painting outdoors for the first time, come be part of this creative West Texas moment.
Painters will check in at 8 AM at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts. Awards for best entries in age-based categories will be announced at 1 PM.
Bring your favorite painting supplies, invite a friend, and help us make San Angelo part of plein air history on October 24.

Community Paint Out Rules
Artists should register at SAMFA between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM. They will be assigned a painter number, which will be affixed to the canvas (or paper or other support), and the individual. The blank canvas shall be stamped on the reverse with the date, to indicate the artist has not worked on the artwork prior to the date of the event.
Artists may use any generally recognized painting/drawing media, such as, but not limited to oils, watercolors acrylics, pastels, charcoal, graphite, etc.
Artists may begin painting any time after checking in. They must turn in their work by 11:45 AM at the registration table.
Artists may paint anywhere they wish in the Concho Valley, understanding they must budget their time so that they turn their artwork in on time.
All work created must be the original work product of the registered artist, produced by them alone, without assistance from any other party, and not infringing any copyrighted work of art.
All entries will be judged by qualified individuals who have experience judging this type of competition. The judges’ decisions will be final and not open to discussion.
All work remains the property of the artist and must be picked up after the winners are announced at 1:00 p.m. Art may not be left behind after the event.
Artists may sell their work after the winners are announced at 1:00 pm. Any sales generated during the event are strictly between artist and buyer, not facilitated by SAMFA and no commission will be collected. Artists may donate a portion of the sale price to SAMFA if they wish.
