Volunteers play an important role in supporting the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts and helping us share art, creativity, and education with the Concho Valley community.
Whether you enjoy working with visitors, helping behind the scenes, or supporting educational programs, there are many ways to get involved at the museum.
Some volunteer roles may not always be immediately available, but we welcome interested applicants and maintain a list of potential volunteers for future opportunities.

Volunteer Areas
Volunteers should be friendly, welcoming, and helpful to all guests, students, staff, and fellow volunteers.
Opportunities may include assisting with:
museum events and programs
educational activities and youth programs
exhibitions and special events
community outreach initiatives
studio support and class preparation
Some volunteer roles involve helping maintain the cleanliness and organization of creative spaces, including assisting with setup or cleanup for classes, workshops, and events.
Volunteers may also have opportunities to assist with special projects across different departments of the museum depending on current needs.
Education
Education volunteers assist with family programs, school visits, and youth activities at the museum. The Museum Educator organizes and oversees a wide variety of programs and is seeking individuals who are highly committed and have specific skills in art, art instruction, and art education.
Responsilibities may include:
Helping during Family Day events
Assisting with student workshops and camps
Supporting hands-on art activities
Helping with classroom setup and cleanup
This role is perfect for people who enjoy working with children, families, and creative learning environments.
Collections
If working with objects and information is more your style, volunteering in Collections just might be for you! This includes researching and documenting our collections objects, and helping out with our changing exhibits. A background check may be required.
Collections volunteers work with museum staff to support the care and documentation of the museum’s permanent collection.
Tasks may include:
Assisting with cataloging and inventory
Helping organize collections
Supporting research projects
Assisting with exhibition preparation
This role is ideal for detail-oriented individuals interested in museum collections, art history, or archival work.
Concho Clay Studio
Volunteers at the Concho Clay Studio help support the museum’s community ceramics program.
Responsibilities may include:
Assisting instructors during classes and workshops
Helping maintain studio cleanliness and organization
Supporting Open Studio members
Assisting with evening events such as Friends Night Out and other workshops
Clay Studio volunteers help create a welcoming and creative environment for students and artists.
General
General volunteers help with a variety of museum activities and events throughout the year.
Opportunities may include:
Helping with museum events and receptions
Assisting with community programs
Supporting exhibition openings
Helping with special projects or outreach programs
General volunteers help keep the museum running smoothly and create a welcoming experience for visitors.
Throughout the year, SAMFA hosts art activities and festivals that require the help of people who can supervise prepared hands-on art activities, serve refreshments, sell tickets, and other similar tasks. We request that during such events volunteers commit to a minimum of two hours during a specific time frame.
Benefits
Volunteering at SAMFA offers the opportunity to engage with the arts community, support museum programs, and gain behind-the-scenes experience in a working museum environment.
Certain volunteer programs, such as those at the Concho Clay Studio, may have additional expectations or time commitments. Volunteers participating in Clay Studio programs are typically asked to contribute approximately six hours per week in order to receive full studio-related benefits.

Concho Clay Studio volunteer benefits may include:
Access to the studio during Open Studio hours (with regular volunteer participation)
Use of studio tools and equipment
Participation in studio kiln firings for personal work

Opportunities to assist with visiting artist workshops and special clay events
Hands-on learning opportunities by assisting instructors during classes and workshops
New Clay Studio volunteers typically complete an initial 25-hour orientation period working with staff and instructors to become familiar with studio operations.
