Thank you for your interest in applying for a Ranch Fellowship! Fellows are required to paint on their assigned ranch and possibly surrounding locations for a three-week period. These ranches are ruggedly beautiful. Being in West Texas, the area is generally arid, with limited water and mesquite trees dominating. This is not for everyone. We will select four Fellows, and they will be assigned in pairs to a ranch. You will likely share a house for three weeks with another Ranch Fellowship Artist (separate bedroom and bathroom). Painting windows for 2027 are April 1 – June 30, 2027. September 1 – 30, 2027. You will let us know when you are available, and for the selected artists we will match their availability with the times convenient for each ranch.

Fellows are also required to be in San Angelo for a week in late October for the opening events of the museum exhibition and the sale of artwork created during the fellowship. A stipend of $2500 is offered to each artist to cover some of their expenses incurred during the Fellowship. Artists receive 60% of the sale price for artwork sold in the exhibition and Grand Hall sale. Artists receive 50% of the auction price on a work created during the Community Paint Out.

The Selection Committee will look primarily at the quality of your work (#1), your artist’s statement (#2), your teaching background with students (#3), your marketing plan for promoting your participation (#4) and of course, your available dates when matching those with the ranches’ available dates.
