Art Shirer, Texas Sculpture Group
From Dallas, Texas
Producing and exhibiting welded steel sculpture for more than four decades, I am known for monumental as well as small kinetic forms. Responding to existing environments, I also create ephemeral site specific installations that incorporate natural elements such as eggs, sticks and stones with physical tension, balance and gravity to activate a space.
Ohio native, Art Shirer, has maintained a studio in Dallas, Texas since 1985. He received a BFA from East Carolina University in 1978, a MFA from Louisiana Tech University in 1981, and many awards including the top prize in the North Carolina Sculpture '79 exhibition as well as an Artist Fellowship from the State of Louisiana Division of the Arts. His work is included in numerous public and private collections across the southeast, Texas and Europe, with recent public commissions for Brookhaven College, the City of Dallas, and Dallas Area Rapid Transit.
