Gracie Fernandez

Gracie has been with the Museum since 1995. She is the Executive Assistant to Howard Taylor. Among other duties, Gracie maintains the Museum Membership and oversees all museum events and fundraisers. Graduate of Central High School and Alumni of Leadership of San Angelo


Karen Zimmerly

Collections Manager

Karen has been with SAMFA since 1999 as Collections Manager she overseees the Museums collection, changing exhibits and museum loans to other museums. She received her MA in Photography from Humboldt State University at Arcata, California and her BA from Drew University in New Jersey. She maintains a studio and gallery, Art 6 Degrees at the Old Chicken Art Farm Center.


Megan DiRienzo

Curator of Education

Megan designs and leads school tours, coordinates Family Day, manages press for the Education Department, assists with grant writing and reporting, and serves as Project Director for the Center for Creative Energy, a collaborative project funded by an IMLS National Leadership Grant. She has worked and interned for a variety of museums including the Illinois State Museum, Dallas Heritage Village at Old City Park, the Columbus Museum of Art, the Dallas Museum of Art, and Phoenix Art Museum. Megan recieved her M.A. in Art Education with a Museum Education certification from University of North Texas and her B.A. in art history from The Ohio State University.


Rebekah Coleman

Bekah has been a familar face in the Education Studio since 2008. She designs and teaches studio art activities for Summer for Kids, Art Thursdays, Family Day, and Spring Break and The Art of Nature camps. She holds a BFA with a specialization in painting and drawing from Angelo State University. In 2011, Bekah was promoted to Assistant Museum Educator, and in addition to her previous duties, now designs and implements studio projects for the Center for Creative Energy, a collaborative project funded by an IMLS National Leadership Grant.


Christy Youker

Christy works as an affiliate with the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts and was formerly employed jointly by the Upper Colorado River Authority and SAMFA. Christy works with Megan and Bekah to design and implement programming for The Art of Nature camp and the Center for Creative Energy, a collaborative project funded by an IMLS National Leadership Grant. Christy's background is in science and museum education. She has an M.S. in Zoology and a PhD in Science Education, focusing on school-museum partnerships.


John Mattson

John has been with the Museum since 1999. He is head of security and prepares the galleries for exhibitions including hanging and taking down the shows. John received an MFA from Mills College in Oakland, California and MA and BA degrees in painting from Humboldt State University.

 

 


Janet Bingham

Janet came to the museum in 2010, after 30 plus years of accounting for private business and CPA firms. She has a BBA from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas.

 

 


Valerie Bluthardt

Program Manager

Valerie has been with the Museum since 1986 when she was “temporarily” hired for a 3 month part time job. Valerie helps to manage the IMLS National Leadership Grant, coordinates adult programs, and coordinates the SAMFAGram. She received her BA in History and Political Science from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas and her Masters of Liberal Studies with museum emphasis from the University of Oklahoma.

JoElla has been with the museum since 2002. She received her BFA from Angelo State University specializing in Graphic Design.


Betty Connolly

Gift Shop Manager

Betty has come to SAMFA after running 2 businesses for 36 years- an insurance agency and an H&R Block Franchise in Kermit, Texas. She also worked at the Gift Shop at Community Hospital for 3 years, and volunteered there prior to coming to manage the Museum Gift Shop.


Joel Quintella

Maintenance Chief/Security

Joel has been with the Museum since 2004. He works hard to keep our facilities beautiful and also provides security for the galleries and helps with special event setup and tear-down. In addition to his job with SAMFA, Joel works at Zentner’s Daughters as a butcher and cook.

 


Sylvia Grimaldo

Weekend Supervisor

Sylvia has been with the Museum since 2003 and does a fabulous job staffing for special events and weekend gallery monitors. When she is not running like crazy at SAMFA events, she works full time at the Shannon Clinic as a Medical Assistant with Dr. Monaghan and has been there since 1983.
