Ezra and Jasmine Bartz have played music together since 1999 when they met at the University of Oregon. Their collaboration has taken them throughout the United States, including performances in the Pacific Northwest, Texas, Tennessee, North Carolina, Ohio, and New York. In 2001, shortly after September 11th, they toured the state of Washington, performing at local schools and churches including a performance on the Love by George radio show in Seattle. On June 18, 2005, Ezra and Jasmine were married in Eugene, Oregon. The day before their wedding they gave a recital together for the many family and friends who have supported them throughout their musical careers.
Ezra Bartz, pianist, is from Eugene, Oregon. As a high school student there he won numerous local competitions, including several medals in the Junior Bach Festival, and in 1998 he enrolled at the University of Oregon. While studying with Victor Steinhardt there he won the University Concero Competition and the Petri Scholarship Competition. Upon graduating magna cum laude, he was awarded Outstanding Performer in Keyboard by the School of Music and Outstanding Performer in Music by the university.
In 2002, Ezra moved to Austin, Texas, to study with Gregory Allen at the University of Texas. He is currently earning his DMA in piano performance there, and is also employed as an Assistant Instructor in piano as well. Additionally, Ezra teaches at the Orpheus Academy of Music, a local private music school. In 2004, Ezra returned to Oregon to give a recital with world-renowned low brass performers Patrick Sheridan and Stephen Meade. In 2005 he toured several universities in the upper Midwest, including Western and Northern Illinois Universities, with long-time friend and University of Oregon tuba professor Michael Grose. Ezra was recently awarded first prize I the Sidney Wright Presidential Endowed Accompanying Competition.
Jasmine Bartz, flute, has appeared with professional organizations such as the Victoria Symphony, Las Vegas Music Festival, Eugene Symphony, Oregon Festival of American Music, Eugene Opera, Brevard Music Symphony Orchestra and the Oregon Mozart Players. She also performed the Ballade by Frank Martin with the University of Oregon symphony as a soloist in 2002.
She is currently finishing her Doctorate of Music Arts at the University of Oregon in flute performance (ABD) while living in Austin, Texas. She received her Master of Music in flute performance in 2000 studying with Dr. Richard Trombley, a student of William Kincaid, and her Bachelor of Music in flute performance from Northern Arizona University in 1006 studying with Philip Swanson.
In 2000, she won a performance scholarship in the Petri Foundation competition, which sponsored Jasmines attendance for three major summer master classes studying with such artists as Leone Buyse, Julius Baker, Jeanne Boxtresser, Tadeo Coelho, Jeffrey Khaner, Jonathan Snowden, Jim Walker, Trevor Wye, and Keith Underwood. In 2002, she won the National Flute Association Masterclass Competition and was a semifinalist in the East & West International Artist Competition in New York City. In 2003, Jasmine was a finalist in the Mu Phi Epsilon International competition and won several scholarships to attend Brevard Music Festival in Brevard, North Carolina. In 2005, Jasmine won third place in Mid-South Flute festival Young Artist competition in March and also performed in several chamber and solo recitals in the Austin area.
