Camille and the Sunflowers

LAURENCE ANHOLT

Camille and the Sunflower is based on an actual encounter and real people, this delightful picture book tells how Camille made friends with Vincent van Gogh, a lonely and unknown painter who is now recognized as a great artist.  Your kids will love the beautiful illustrations and reproductions of some of van Gogh’s most famous paintings!

Project: 3-D Sunflowers

During this activity your children will learn about Vincent van Gogh’s sunflower painting, the anatomy of a sunflower, and still lifes.  Your children will also gain experience with the materials and creating 3-D artwork.

The project entails creating a 3-d sunflower, just like the ones that Vincent van Gogh painted, using construction paper, black beans and other assorted materials!  The sunflower petals look like they are growing right off the paper and the beans, in the base of the flower, create a real-life texture!  Your kids will go home with a Sunflower Still Life that will look like the famous Vincent van Gogh painted it!
